Brisbane–Beenleigh Road, Loganlea Road to Waterford–Tamborine Road, business case Project update - April 2023
Future upgrade of Brisbane–Beenleigh Road from Loganlea Road to Waterford–Tamborine Road, Waterford
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is undertaking a business case for a potential future project on Brisbane–Beenleigh Road between the intersections of Loganlea Road and Waterford–Tamborine Road.
Background
Brisbane–Beenleigh Road is a major road which carries over 30,000 vehicles per day, with the section between Loganlea Road and Nerang Street carrying over 44,000 vehicles per day.
The major traffic movements are from Nerang Street into Loganlea Road in the morning peak and the reverse in the afternoon peak.
This business case aims to find a preferred option to:
- improve the safety and capacity of the Brisbane–Beenleigh Road intersections with Loganlea Road and Nerang Street
- identify safety improvements for active transport.
Timeline
The community is invited to provide feedback on the proposed upgrade and all feedback is to be received by 30 April 2023.
All feedback will be considered and included in the business case which is expected to be completed in mid-2023.
There is currently no timing for design or construction of the proposed works, however the business case will assist with securing funding for the next stages.
Design features
- Reconfiguration of the Loganlea Road intersection to provide increased capacity of the left turn from the north and right turn from the east.
- Widening of Larry Storey Bridge, into the median, to provide a third lane in both directions between the intersections.
- Reconfiguration of the Waterford–Tamborine Road intersection (integrating the interim upgrade currently under construction), providing increased capacity of the left turn from the south and right turn from the west.
- Improved bicycle infrastructure with the inclusion of bicycle lanes on Loganlea Road and Brisbane–Beenleigh Road and Waterford–Tamborine Road.
- Provision of a footpath on the eastern side of Loganlea Road and northern side of Brisbane–Beenleigh Road.
- Improved pedestrian access at intersections by removing or reconfiguring existing slip lanes to provide protected signalised pedestrian crossings.
